"An Ode to the Pioneers"

“An Ode to the TNA Pioneers”

With the 2-year anniversary of TNAsylum upon us, I feel it necessary to pay tribute to the PIONEERS of TNA (those who took a chance on TNA and joined the company in the 1st year) and what they have meant to the company in the last 10years. I’d also like to express how awesome it has been for the last 2 years to have a website like this for TNA fans. I have not seen a TNA site that does things better than TNAsylum and that’s a shoot. I am a HUGE fan that has the privilege of occasionally trying to add to it by writing articles that I feel that other fans of TNA would like.

So to pay tribute to the TNAsylum and TNA as they simultaneously come to their anniversary dates, I will bring a different article today in a unique Genius-style poem (YouTube a Genius poem if you are too young to know what I’m talking about) dedicated to the Pioneers of TNA. It would be impossible to pay tribute to everyone involved with TNA in its 1st year but most of the wrestlers mentioned below are still in TNA or could make an appearance at Slammiversary 2012.

Total Non-Stop Action,
“What’s That?” Most people ask
“Professional Wrestling” I soon reply,
“Oh……. like on Nacho Libre,
where they wear a mask?”

Well in the promotion that I like best,
There IS a man that dons that kind of attire,
His name is “The Monster Abyss”,
On occasion he’s thrown through a table on fire.
“Tell me more, tell me more” the person asks
I’m happy to oblige and begin to proceed,
“Let me tell you how it all got started,
Just relax, it will be a great read.

It was the brainchild of the Jarretts,
Yes THAT Jeff & Jerry,
To have guts to risk failure must have been scary.

To jump off the cliff and take this chance,
“What if it backfires? OR we could take a stance,
That pro-wrestling cannot be controlled by just One
There must to be 2 powers like the moon & the sun”

So son and father devised a plan,
“We’ll do it ourselves” and show that McMahon.
That 1st night in June, a sight to behold,
History was being made; TNA was BOLD!

The odds were against them, believers were few,
But the wrestlers believed and they knew what to do.
“We’ll wow them with wrestling, and toughness & grit,
They’ll be so excited they won’t want to sit”

So with a standing ovation and a chant of the letters,
“TNA,TNA,TNA” was born,
No-one does it better.

Who amongst them would be,
with this company 10 years later?
If you know the answer to that,
then you’re not a total hater.

Jeff Jarrett of course, since he was the leader,
He had faith in his vision,
Lady Luck? Nah, didn’t need her.

Cuz he had wrestlers there that were there to stay,
The stud of the group is of course A.J.
Mr. Styles had skill and the a big drive to win,
But 1st he had to get by the veteran Jerry Lynn.

AJ showed his athleticism was not just the norm,
Yet, another future champ was there ,
A future star that was James Storm.

The Cowboy was green as all rookies are,
And with their mere earnings that night,
He may’ve had to sleep in his car.

The beginnings were humble, as humble could be
But another who shined that night was that crazy Low Ki

Who later found out the grass wasn’t greener,
The other company looked tempting,
but the other boss was just meaner.

The Abyss freak that I had mentioned before,
Was there in person just more as Chris Park,
Or Justice for those who may be in the dark.

A core roster was there in various forms,
When Chris Sabin showed up,
He looked to be straight from the dorms,
Daniels was also there in that 1st year,
Don’t believe me? Simply Google it my dear.

Raven also came in and quickly became champ,
That “hardcore vibe” become tradition,
TNA won over the “Blood-Thirsty” camp.

Those fans wanted blood and the wrestlers said yes
They were not PG, who would settle for less?

And then came the star power,
at the 1st Anniversary show,
Here came the man in face-paint, where else would he go?He came to a company that he could believe in,
To go to the E’ would have truly been a nasty sin.

But that night in June 2003,
He did it for you and he did it for me,
For fans that prefer not to go “Mainstream”
The ones who wanted to join a TNA team.

So now push fast-forward to just 10 years later,
A lot of faces have changed
Yet TNA seems to still cater,
To the fans that want WRESTLING ,
Not a little kids show.
If PG crap is what you want,
Then you know where to go!

The true TNA fans are set & ready to party,
10 years means 50 more,
You won’t want to be tardy.

To this big, live event that will be here soon,
This year TNA brings new life to the month known as June
And all along the way, TNAsylum will guide you,
You’re all invited, and all your friends too.
