The TNA World Heavyweight Championship was created in 2007 after the National Wrestling Alliance ended a five-year agreement with TNA over control of their belts. Christian Cage was stripped of the NWA World Heavyweight Title on May 13, 2007 -- which led to the creation of TNA's own championships going forward.
