Shelbin's Slant

Jeff Hardy has pro-claimed himself the Anti-Christ of Wrestling and I, for one, think it’s a brilliant idea.

- We witnessed our first tease, albeit a subtle one, last week when Eric Bischoff of Immortal informed Fortune that they could not interfere in AJ Styles’ match against The Pope. Later, it was revealed that the tease was at the expense of AJ’s opponent, and not necessarily an attempt to foreshadow a chink in the armor. Or was it? Ultimately, nobody knows what Bischoff’s true intentions are as they relate to Fortune’s success in TNA so it’ll be interesting to see how the dynamic between the two groups plays out.

- Jeff Hardy has pro-claimed himself the Anti-Christ of Wrestling and I, for one, think it’s a brilliant idea. It immediately sets the stage for Hardy to wreck havoc in TNA and to make life miserable for his enemies, who are incidentally anyone from former friends (RVD, Mr. Anderson) to wrestling fans. Since his turn at Bound for Glory, Hardy has repeatedly attempted to permanently injure Mr. Anderson and RVD, and has constantly disrespected his devoted fans. It’ll be interesting to see how he treats Ink Inc, who we’ve yet to see since BFG.

- Immortal’s targets, other than Dixie Carter, appear to be Kurt Angle, Mr. Anderson, RVD, Samoa Joe, and The Pope. That’s a pretty impressive group of wrestlers. All five are main event stars who can be quite a threat, of course, once they finally realize that they will need to work together. This group certainly puts the TNA Originals to shame as they so desperately tried to save TNA from the big bad (and really old) Main Event Mafia. The TNA Originals were quite laughable actually.

- So it appears that TNA Creative are trying to re-build the Knockouts Division by focusing on a core group of women who can wrestle, all competing for the Knockouts title. From the looks of it, the focus will be on Mickie James, as she battles Tara and Madison Rayne for now. In the meantime, The Beautiful People are, once again, focusing on really fun and enjoyable backstage segments, and storyline-dictated angles in which they ridicule other Knockouts on the roster. It’ll be interesting to see what Creative have in mind for Miss Tessmacher and Winter.

- The interesting thing about the latest takeover storyline is that it’s been successful in sort of giving every wrestler on the roster a role. With a few minor exceptions (X Division stars & some tag teams), every wrestler appears to have a purpose. Everything that the wrestlers have done since BFG seems to make sense, as opposed to the months leading into the biggest PPV of the year.  Character developement and storylines that make sense and do not insult the viewers' intelligence make all the difference in the world.
