We opened the show will a message that this show was in memory of Brad Armstrong, who died today at age 51. On behalf of everyone at TNAsylum, we wish the whole Armstrong family our condolences.
Joseph Park was in the ring to kick off Open Fight Night. Park said that he isn't a wrestler but an attorney. He said after what happened with the Aces and 8s, he would stick up for his rights violations. Park said Hulk Hogan has yet to give him an answer in regards to a match against the Aces and 8s. He found a loophole in Open Fight Night that will give him that opportunity. He challenged any member of the group to a fight right now.
The group made their way out and surrounded Park. Before they could jump, Kurt Angle came out and made the save. He was beat down in the ring. Sting made the save and ran the group away with a bat. Sting announced that by the end of the night a member of the Aces and 8s would get their mask ripped off from their face.
Talon's Take: It looks like we will get storyline progression tonight as a new member of the Aces and 8s is unmasked. I believe it will likely be the long-haired one who we all know.
Jeremy Borash was ringside again with Todd Keneley. Tonight ODB will face Jesse, Devon will face Bully Ray, Christian York will get a Gutcheck opportunity and more.
Backstage, a camera man spoke to Magnus, who was heading to the ring. Magnus said he wasn't concerned with the Aces and 8s but instead with unmasking a phony.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Jesse was backstage with Tara complaining about an ear infection and facing ODB tonight. Tara said she had his back tonight. He then told her to "sterilize him" as she put hand sanitizer on him. They then smooched to end the segment.
Talon's Take: I love the Jesse and Tara pairing. Great comedy characters! Nuff Said!
Magnus came to the ring and called out Samoa Joe for the Television Championship. He is calling him out because he has an issue with him being the TV Champion as he isn't the image the company is looking for as champion. Magnus said Joe had a "radio face." He was interrupted by Joe, who made his way to the ring.
Magnus vs Samoa Joe
Television Championship
Joe tore into Magnus with a big chop to his chest followed by a jumping enziguri. Magnus fought back but could maintain his control. Joe fired back destroying Magnus. The two fought outside the ring where Magnus grabbed a wrench from under the ring. He ended up using it on Joe, causing himself to get disqualified while also laying out the Samoan Submission Machine.
Talon's Take: They are probably building towards a rematch at Turning Point, perhaps over the TV Title and perhaps with a No DQ stipulation. For those asking, match recaps will be more brief and will only include the highlights as it is easier for us recappers.
Backstage, Sting was with Joseph Park and Hulk Hogan bragging about nearly cracking a member of the Aces and 8s in the head with the bat. Kurt Angle stormed in saying he wanted Devon. He was followed by Garett Bischoff and Wes Brisco. Hulk Hogan told Kurt that if there is anything left of Devon after tonight then Kurt could have him at Turning Point. Angle said he had some backup in Wes Brisco and Garett Bischoff. Sting fired everyone up then left telling everyone to rip off some masks.
Talon's Take: I am concerned that with Garett Bischoff and Wes Brisco involved tonight that we won't get an unveiling as we were led to believe.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Samoa Joe was backstage angry about what just happened. Joe had an ice pack on his head. He said Magnus escaped him tonight. He told Magnus that at Turning Point that they should throw out the rules and the DQs and settle this.
Talon's Take: Called it! It should be a good match.
Jeff Hardy was backstage painting his face. Once again, we got a voice over of Hardy. He said anyone could call him out. Hardy said Austin Aries was nothing more than a thief whose overconfidence will kill him.
Talon's Take: While some dislike the narration aspect, I think it works for Jeff Hardy's character, who is in a world of his own. It is unique and distinct and makes him stand out even more.
Daniels and Kazarian headed towards the ring and grabbed themselves mics. Kazarian called Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero "posers." He said last week some people backstage got "muy caliente" about what happened with what they said last week. Daniels called down Hector Guerrero and Willie Urbina, making it seem like they were challenging Chavo and Hernandez.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
After the break, Hector and Willie were getting in the ring but were refusing to fight. Kazarian and Daniels continued running them down when Daniels shoved Urbina. Daniels and Kazarian then started beating down the two. Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez came down and made the save, running off the two. Chavo was infuriated at the challengers.
Talon's Take: Can't say I give a damn whatsoever about the team of Nacho Libre. Chavo is okay in small doses and Hernandez is good when he has a good partner. Daniels and Kazarian make these segments bearable.
Christian York will be getting his Gutcheck shot next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
ODB was backstage on the phone with EY asking where he was. She told him that she needed him and he needed to bring the fried chicken.
Christian York vs Zema Ion
Gutcheck Challenge
York grabbed Zema's hairspray and threw it up the ramp. York hit a big man cartwheel early on. York hit a front roll on a Zema charge. He also hit a flipping kick and then a tumbling charge onto Zema in the corner. He went up top but Zema went to the apron.
Ion with a Swinging Tornado DDT. He later went for a Springboard Moonsault but ate York's knees. York caught Zema with a clothesline then hit a Spinning Neckbreaker called the "Mood Swing" that got him a close nearfall. Outside, York hit a headscissor. In the ring, Zema locked in his armbar he calls "Submission Impossible."
Talon's Take: This was one of the better Gutcheck Matches we have had. While York should tweak his look, I would be completely fine if he ended up on the roster. Aside from some clunkiness in his high spots, he did well enough for himself.
A camera man caught up with Austin Aries, who stills has the World Heavyweight Title belt. Austin Aries walked into the locker room of the two Robbies. He reminded them of "five points" that Robbie E scored a few months ago.
Talon's Take: Aries is good as a slimy heel and his using Robbie E (the douchebag heel) as someone to hurt Hardy is a smart move that he would do.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Backstage, Garett Bischoff approached Bully Ray. Garett said he doesn't have as much history with Devon like Bully does but he turned on him as well. Garett said he has Bully's back. Bully commended him for standing up to him despite a lack of experience in this business. A stage hand interrupted saying that the Aces and 8s were outside.
Bully Ray and Garett stormed to the parking lot where Sting, Wes Brisco and Kurt Angle were about to brawl with the Aces and 8s. The two groups began to brawl. The faces got the upperhand where Sting yelled that someone was losing a mask, tonight. While this brawl was happening, Devon appeared in the background and was chased off by Bully Ray.
ODB made her way to the ring with a flask in hand and Taryn Terrell as referee. She called out that "eyebrow tweezing, six pack waxing, overrated, protein shaker drinker etc" Jesse. She told him to get out here and meet his big sister. Jesse obliged, being accompanied by Tara.
Jesse vs ODB
Jesse went for a clothesline but was met with a bunch of open-hand slaps by ODB. Jesse couldn't hit ODB and took a pounding because of it. ODB went for punches in the corner when she was pushed off. Jesse missed an elbow elbow and rolled outside again. Jesse and Tara ran before making their way into the ring.
ODB hit the Dirty Dozen but hit canvas when Jesse fell apart. Jesse hit a weak body slam. He kissed Tara again, giving ODB and advantage. Another Tara distraction allowed Jesse to roll up ODB.
Talon's Take: Maybe its because Jesse was facing a woman, but he didn't display alot of wrestling ability. He might have a character-driven style that doesn't require alot of mat skills. Not a great match!
Todd Kenely turned his headset over to Mike Tenay, who wished Taz (and others) the best due to Hurricane Sandy.
Robbie E and Robbie T made their way to the ring. Robbie E said the most memorable part of the BFG Series was him beating Jeff Hardy. Robbie E called out Jeff Hardy a second time.
Jeff Hardy vs Robbie E
Hardy immediately hit his signature moves as Robbie struggled to get in any offense. Robbie retreated ringside where he was sent into the ring steps by Hardy. Hardy hit Poetry in Motion after springboarding off the ring steps.Behind the referee's back, Robbie T sent Hardy hard into the guardrail.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Jeff Hardy was regaining control when we returned from break. Robbie countered the Twist of Fate and hit his Swinging DDT for a two-count. He went for it again but Hardy countered, eventually hitting a Twist of Fate. A Swanton Bomb followed allowing Hardy to pick up the win.
After the match, Austin Aries came down to the ramp. Aries said the difference between them is just three seconds. Outside of three seconds at BFG, he was the most dominant champion in TNA history. The fans chanted "overrated." Aries said at Turning Point, he will regain his World Championship.
Jeff Hardy then went ringside and said that if they were going to do this, they need to do this right. He then pulled a Ladder out from under the ring. Hardy sat atop the Ladder and challenged Aries to a Ladder Match at Turning Point. Aries angrily said he wasn't doing it and stormed off.
Talon's Take: The Ladder Match should be excellent. Aries vs Hardy at BFG was good; Aries vs Hardy in a Ladder Match at Turning Point should be better.
We got some footage of the opening of Hulk Hogan's Beach Shop. Hogan was talking with Jeremy Borash when Matt Morgan interrupted. Morgan said he was missing one thing. He then grabbed a robe that Hogan wore to Shea Stadium. Hogan asked him not to take it but Morgan got into his face.
Talon's Take: I actually felt bad for Hogan here. Morgan is a bully and is really starting to come into his own as a heel.
Hogan watched a TV backstage when Storm walked up. Storm wanted to know what Hogan was talking about last week. Hogan asked Storm if he was a betting man. When Storm said yeah, Hogan said he had an idea for him.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Former World Champion, Bobby Roode came to the ring ready to wrestle. Roode says it was Open Fight Night but he wasn't here to fight. He said he was getting screwed again. Last week, Hogan had a deliberation in his office with four men trying to get a World Title shot. Roode said since Aries isn't champion anymore, he should have been the guy challenging Hardy last week.
AJ Styles interrupted, also ready to wrestle. AJ said he should have been the World Champion. AJ told Roode that he held the World Title longer than anyone so he shouldn't be crying about it. AJ said he was dealing with other issues. Getting into an elevator with the opposite sex seems to be the new fad if your name is AJ. (Shot at WWE) He said tonight is Open Fight Night and he was calling him out right now. Roode said he wasn't here to fight and the answer was no. As AJ turned his back, Roode pounced on him.
AJ was going to springboard on Roode when Hulk Hogan's music interrupted. Hogan said he agreed that both Roode and AJ deserve a title shot. He said it would be in their hands. At Turning Point it would be a Triple Threat Match. The man who is pinned won't get a World Title shot until Bound For Glory next year. It will be AJ Styles vs Bobby Roode vs James Storm with the winner getting a title shot.
Talon's Take: Good segment here! I really like the stipulation of the 3-Way at Turning Point. Not only do we get a #1 contender but one man won't get a Title Shot for about 11 months. That is an incredibly interesting stipulation. By the way, I loved AJ Styles' shot at the Cena-AJ WWE Storyline.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
The "Sleazy" one, Joey Ryan (with Matt Morgan wearing Hogan's robe) made his way to the ring. Morgan said for years TNA Management has ignored his talents. He said instead of waiting for the ball, he stole the ball. He took talents heads off at TNA House Shows. Morgan said he would eat the TNA Talent one by one until he holds the World Heavyweight Championship. Joey Ryan called out RVD saying he would prove that the X Division Championship can be X-Rated.
Rob Van Dam vs Joey Ryan
Ryan attacked RVD as he made his entrance but RVD regained control immediately. RVD hit Rolling Thunder and then went for the 5-Star Frog Splash but Matt Morgan pulled Ryan out of the way. Ryan rolled up RVD for the victory. After the match as RVD fought Ryan, Morgan connected with the Carbon Footprint on the X Division Champion.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
Next week...AJ Styles vs Bobby Roode in Singles action.
Bully Ray made his way out to the ring. Ray gave a shoutout to the fans of the Northeast, telling them to stay hardcore. Ray told Devon to get out here as he wants to kick his ass. Devon obliged and made his entrance.
Bully Ray vs Devon
Ray charged after Devon, who retreated ringside. Ray went under the ring and pulled out a table, setting it up in the ring. Devon refused to get in the ring. Devon signaled for the remaining members of the Aces and 8s to make their way to the ring.
The group cornered Ray in the corner of the ring. The faces of TNA made their way to the ring as a giant brawl broke out. The ring cleared of everyone but Bully Ray and Devon. The two brawled where Ray set Devon up to go through the table. He was going to go through when a member of the group broke things up.
Joseph Park went face to face with the masked member. The member beat down Joseph Park who then pulled his mask off. The man was revealed to be Isaiah Cash AKA Luke Gallows AKA Festus. Cash put Park through the table to close the show.
Talon's Take: Unexpected, but good reveal. We needed storyline progression in the Aces and 8s saga and we are now starting to get it. The fans didn't react huge to Cash but that is probably because he isn't a huge name. I think Cash has alot to offer TNA so I enjoyed this segment.
FINAL TAKE
I enjoyed this show. TNA has picked up a bit the past two weeks from what we got before BFG. I like that things are moving forward instead of spinning in their wheels. Turning Point should be another fun PPV.
